The biggest difference to the original concept is that the show is broadcast live and the judges nominate the bottom two contestants for elimination, then the viewers vote to save one of the two girls, meaning one girl gets voted off by the audience every week, whereas in the original series only the judges decided about the verdict for each contestant. Due to the success of Supermodelo 2006 the number of contestants was increased from 13 to 20 girls and daily episodes were introduced. Over 14 weeks, the audience had the final say in eliminating one of the bottom two contestants every week. In the end, 21-year-old Noelia López from Seville, Spain triumphed over Magdalena Pérez, Isabel Cañete, and Alba Carillo on the season finale.

The show is based on Tyra Banks' hit series America's Next Top Model and is being hosted by Spanish model Judit Mascó. In this season the show saw significant changes when former host Judit Mascó left the show with Eloísa González replacing her. Also male contestants were allowed to enter who would compete in a separate competition from the females, whose winner would eventually be the representative for Spain on the annual Elite Model Contest as in the two years before. In the beginning the top 50 from each gender was invited to the official casting audition which took part on a boat where the number of contestants was reduced to 20 in each gender on the first day. After several days of eliminations the top 8 for each gender was announced and the 16 contestants moved into the model villa. From then on three contestants from each gender got nominated at the end of the week and when one girl and one guy were eliminated they were replaced by two new contestants. All the changes and variations of the format proved to be very unpopular with Spanish audience and the show was cut after only 5 weeks on air. Castaway 2007 was a follow-up to the BBC series Castaway 2000 in which a group of people from the British public are "castaway" on a remote island. While in the 2000 series 36 men, women and children moved to a remote Scottish island for a year, this series featured 15 men and women from the British public who were moved to a New Zealand island for three months. The basic premise of a group of volunteers living as a community in a remote location remains, however this time the BBC promised an "exotic location, on the other side of the world". Another change since Castaway 2000, was that the castaways were voted off the island one-by-one, in a manner similar to other reality series like Big Brother. The prize for the winning castaway, which was Jonathan, was a trip around New Zealand with a friend later in the year.
