Location Hunting in Palestine 1965

In 1963, accompanied by a newsreel photographer and a Catholic priest, Piero Paolo Pasolini traveled to Palestine to investigate the possibility of filming his biblical epic The Gospel According to Matthew in its approximate historical locations. Edited by The Gospel‘s producer for potential funders and distributors, Seeking Locations in Palestine features semi-improvised commentary from Pasolini as its only soundtrack. As we travel from village to village, we listen to Pasolini’s idiosyncratic musings on the teachings of Christ and witness his increasing disappointment with the people and landscapes he sees before him. Israel, he laments, is much too modern. The Palestinians, much too wretched; it would be impossible to believe the teachings of Jesus had reached these faces. The Gospel According to Matthew was ultimately filmed in Southern Italy. Mel Gibson would use some of the same locations forty years later for The Passion of the Christ.

The Sky on Location 1983

A personal meditation on the landscape of the American West that tracks the ruling conception in nature in the 19th and 20th centuries from the pioneers through the instamatic tourists, at the same time that it obsessively follows the four seasons. The elemental vicissitudes of the weather, the exact moment of the day, the colour of the light and the soil and the trees form an acute visual record of the constantly changing mood of the landscape. The film successfully attempts, with quiet, passionate, almost single-minded firmness, to confront us as nakedly as possible with our cultural inability to see nature whole, without preconceptions.

Shot On Location 1972

The credits for Shot on Location say it was written and directed by John Donne, the 17th century metaphysical poet. Sexploitation vets RENE BOND, RIC LUTZ, EVE ORLON, and SANDY DEMPSEY are on hand to convince you otherwise. But don’t make up your mind before considering the boners offered up here in the spirit of poetic licentiousness, as the story of a randy group of moviemakers plays itself out with characteristic early-Seventies panache. Suffice it to say that "shooting on location," in more ways than one, is the order of business in this excessively un-metaphysical epic.

George Carlin: Again!

George Carlin: Again! is American comedian George Carlin's second HBO stand-up television special. It was filmed in the round at The Celebrity Theater in 1978 in Phoenix, Arizona. The show was first broadcast on July 23, 1978. The opening segment of the show contains pictures from Carlin's childhood which he narrates over: "I thought we might take a look at some of the pictures from the days when my show business career was just starting". The narration segues into Carlin waiting backstage to go on. He begins his routine by acknowledging the audience before diving into his "Goofy Shit" list which includes some new routines: Sandman on a rainy night, large craft warnings, Marine land fish sticks, centipedes, waiters in waiting rooms, evening gowns at night clubs, fluorescent lights, Kleenex targets, the hats that are not there, frogs legs, emptying the wishing wells, dream credits, why there is no blue food, skilled and unskilled workers, why we buy flowers, and cleaning the church. Carlin then performs a new long routine about time, who has the time, and words we use to describe time
