Baldessari progresses from simple, static images, such as a rock in an empty room, to complex narrative scenes, like a woman eavesdropping on her next-door neighbor. Through the gradual integration of cinematic techniques—motion, color, sound, acting, editing and arc—the artist inverts the traditional Hollywood model, stressing structure over narrative coherence.

When we lived in the house it was surrounded by forest, with a long unpaved driveway leading through the woods to the school bus stop. Growing up, my sisters and I heard voices, saw lights and dreamed of other beings. My mother and I shared a recurring dream of strangers on the driveway, where stonewalls marked the old main road through town. Our dreams and our memories converged into one experience, the experience of living in a haunted house. After the sale of the property in 2001, my recurring dreams returned and the question emerged - were we the ones now haunting the house? When I ask my father about the past, he answers with the Theory of Relativity, the Laws of Thermodynamics, and the speed of light. He dreams of being on a distant star, with a telescope powerful enough to show him how things used to be. Just as we perceive the moon, as it was 1.2 seconds ago and the sun, as it existed 8 minutes ago, great distances allow us an opportunity to look back in time.

Seeing as how I (Adam, Producer/Director) am a Christian, I want the world to know what that means and why it is important to me. But I asked myself, how could I dare ask someone to listen to what I have to say if I'm not first willing to listen to them. This idea started a journey toward meeting new people in the hopes of better understanding the diversity of ideas that bombard us all when dealing with any sort of religious/spiritual interest. We approach people on the streets, go undercover, and meet people in their homes, all in the effort to learn more about what makes them tick. The whole crew discovers new things on this journey and we pass on those lessons for feedback. We are aiming for a feature length film because of the amount of content that we have already gotten and anticipate in finishing production. We also throw in some lighthearted scripted scenes to entertain.

Those who once had a crucial role as adversary are now participants in the celebrity-obsessed shadow that has swallowed up authenticity in art. Kostabi has taken out a full-page ad in Art Forum as proof of this public triumph of the inauthentic. Is this public undermining of the critical apparatus the logical conclusion of Anti-Art?"
