The main event was a casket match between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker for the WWF Championship. The main matches on the undercard were the Royal Rumble match, The Legion Of Doom (Hawk and Animal) versus The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg and Billy Gunn) for the WWF Tag Team Championship, and The Rock versus Ken Shamrock for the WWF Intercontinental Championship.

King of the Ring (1998) was the sixth annual King of the Ring. It was presented by Super Soaker and took place on June 28, 1998 at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. The main event was a First Blood match featuring Kane vs Steve Austin for the WWF Championship. The other main match was a Hell in a Cell match featuring The Undertaker defeating Mankind. Featured matches on the undercard included the KOTR tournament final between Ken Shamrock and The Rock, with the winner to receive a Tag team match for the WWF Tag Team Championship between the New Age Outlaws and The New Midnight Express. This event produced the most famous Hell in a Cell match of all time, pitting The Undertaker against Mankind. Less than two minutes into the match, The Undertaker threw Mankind from the top of the 16' high cell through the Spanish announcers table. A few minutes later in the match in another memorable moment, The Undertaker chokeslammed Mankind through the top of the cell.
Halloween Havoc 1998 took place on October 25, 1998 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and featured a double main event. The main event was Goldberg defending the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Diamond Dallas Page. Also heavily promoted was a match between Hollywood Hogan and The Warrior. Two of the larger matches were Bret Hart defending the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship against Sting and The Outsiders brawling as Scott Hall took on Kevin Nash in a singles match. Other matches included a rematch between Scott Steiner and Rick Steiner, The Giant and Scott Steiner defended the WCW World Tag team Championships against Rick Steiner & Buff Bagwell, Billy Kidman defended the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Disco Inferno, and Chris Jericho defended the WCW World Television Championship against Raven.
Derek Vineyard is paroled after serving 3 years in prison for killing two thugs who tried to break into/steal his truck. Through his brother, Danny Vineyard's narration, we learn that before going to prison, Derek was a skinhead and the leader of a violent white supremacist gang that committed acts of racial crime throughout L.A. and his actions greatly influenced Danny. Reformed and fresh out of prison, Derek severs contact with the gang and becomes determined to keep Danny from going down the same violent path as he did.

Survivor Series (1998) was the twelfth annual Survivor Series. It was presented by Nestlé Crunch and took place on November 15, 1998 at the Kiel Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Fourteen matches were scheduled on the event's card, a noticeably higher number than most pay-per-view events because the main focus of the card was a tournament for the vacant WWF Championship titled Deadly Game. It was the first tournament held with the WWF Championship on the line in ten years, the last being at WrestleMania IV. Aside from the tournament, two other championship matches occurred: the first defense of the WWF Women's Championship since it had been reactivated and a triple threat tag team match for the WWF Tag Team Championship. This event was also the first Survivor Series not to feature the traditional Survivor Series elimination-style tag team match.
