The film is based on a true story: the tragic life of China's first prima donna of the silver screen, Ruan Lingyu. This movie chronicles her rise to fame as a movie actress in Shanghai during the 1930s. Actress Maggie Cheung portrayed Ruan in this movie. Nicknamed the "Chinese Garbo," Ruan Lingyu began her acting career when she was 16 years old and committed suicide at age 24. The film alternates between present scenes (production talks between director Kwan, Cheung, and co-star Carina Lau, interviews of witnesses who knew Ruan), re-creation scenes with Cheung (as Ruan, acting inside this movie), and extracts from Ruan's original films including her final two films The Goddess and New Women.

It has won thirteen Emmy Awards and fifty-three Emmy Award nominations, as well as two George Foster Peabody Awards. Two recordings made from concerts presented on the show have won Grammy awards. Announcer Martin Bookspan was with the program from its premiere in 1976 until his 2006 retirement, when Fred Child, announcer for NPR's Performance Today, took over. Journey to the Center of the Earth is an American science fiction animated television series, consisting of 17 episodes, each running 30 minutes. Produced by Filmation in association with 20th Century Fox, it aired from September 9, 1967 to September 6, 1969 on ABC Saturday Morning. It featured the voice of Ted Knight as Professor Lindenbrook. It was later shown in reruns on Sci Fi Channel's Cartoon Quest. It appears to have taken the 1959 film, Journey to the Center of the Earth, as its starting point rather than Jules Verne's original novel, e.g. including the character of Count Saknusssen and Gertrude the duck. However it moved even further away from Verne's novel than the 1959 film.

Weather Center was a news/weather program produced by The Weather Channel in Atlanta, Georgia. Initially, Weather Center was the lone news program for The Weather Channel. By 2000, the show had started being significantly pared down. By the end of 2008, Weather Center only aired for one hour a day during the week and two hours on weekends. The 4pm hour of Weather Center was replaced by PM Edition.

Business Center

Business Center is a former primetime business news show on CNBC Asia. It debuted in mid-October 2000 to replace the Asian Edition of Global Market Watch. The show took its name from CNBC US' flagship evening show, Business Center and while it shared the same lower-thirds, the background for the charts remained the same as the ones used during other daytime shows. The show reviewed all the action from the Asian trading day, crossed-over to Europe to see the midday action there and previewed the session in the US. It also featured updates and analysis of the currency markets from Dow Jones Newswires. World news updates are also featured and the show ends by telling viewers the business events or the kinds of economic data across the region scheduled to be released the following day. It was initially presented by Martin Soong and Grace Phan. Regular contributors to the show included Maria Bartiromo and Nick Hastings. Various reporters from CNBC Europe also gave updates on the European trading day. The show was ultimately replaced in February 2005 by CNBC Tonight.

Rock Center with Brian Williams was an American weekly television newsmagazine that was broadcast by NBC and hosted by NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams. It debuted on October 31, 2011, and aired on Mondays until January 30, 2012. It aired on Wednesdays starting February 8, 2012. It was produced in the Rockefeller Center's "Studio 3B", the same space as NBC Nightly News, and formerly that of the Today Show. Named after the location of the NBC News headquarters in the GE Building at 30 Rockefeller Center, the program was the first new NBC News program to launch in primetime since Now with Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric debuted in 1993. Rock Center was designed to be more serious than NBC's existing prime time newsmagazine, Dateline NBC, which had increasingly delved into human interest and true crime stories, and had switched from a multiple-story format into a single story format. On May 10, 2012, NBC announced that Rock Center had been removed from the schedule for the remainder of the May 2012 sweeps period due to low ratings. Three days later, on May 13, 2012, NBC announced that Rock Center would be renewed for a second season during its 2012-13 upfront presentation. The series was also shown on MSNBC.
